Last Day of Preschool

These two are off to their last day of preschool this year!*

On their last day, their school hosts a carnival to celebrate and say good bye.
Complete with a fishing pond...
 Obstacle course...

Crafts:
And the obligatory "Shark Scene"!
They loved their teachers SO MUCH this year. Ashlyn was so inspired that she wants to be a teacher when she grows up & read JUST LIKE THEY DO! (Actually technically she said she wants to be a "Mama-doctor-teacher", which is the obvious career choice & one that I completely endorse as a pretty fab career.)

Here are some of their favorites from the school year:
Ashlyn's Favorites:
Subject/activity: Games and puzzles!
Friends: Kate, Reese, Callan, Brennan, Brooke,
Snack: z-bars & applesauce
Memory: Mother's Day Tea
Future Career: Mama-doctor-teacher

Kaia's Favorites:
Subject/activity: Play Doh!
Friends: Kate, Gigi, Grace
Snack: z-bars & bunny crackers
Memory: When I picked out a pumpkin.
Future Career: Teacher & mother

(*Note how much they love these dresses. They wear them for every special occasion, and most Mondays, Wednesdays, Fridays, and Saturdays. They have been quickly hand washed for such an affair, because it is IMPORTANT TO WEAR YOUR FAVORITE DRESS AS OFTEN AS POSSIBLE.)

Last Day of First Grade

Here's our cheerful first grader heading off to the last day of school!

Connor's good friend and partner in crime Anna Mae. These two. They like to read books over each others shoulder on the bus. Connor is really going to miss those bus rides over the summer!

I told Connor at the end of the day that he was now a SECOND GRADER! His reply: "No not really. I'm just a summer-grader right now." (then laughed at his own joke). That first...er...second grade humor. Hilarious.

Now what you have all been waiting for...the END-OF-THE-YEAR-SURVEY:

Connor's Favorites:
Subject: Writing
Friends: Jake, Arielle, Connor M., Cailey, & Anna Mae
PE Activity: Free Choice (He likes to choose scooter boards)
Music Activity: singing!
Art Project: Bunny Art
Snack: Graham Crackers
Cold Lunch: PB & J
Hot Lunch: Pancakes
Book: Magic Tree House (all of them)
Joke: "We're going to sit on cows." (when discussing what we would do without the Universe)
Memory: Always sitting with Anna Mae on the bus

First Grade Field Day

Field day is always a big hit! This year it was the last week of school. Connor's little sisters were welcome to come and participate...so they did!

Whew! It was a hot day!
Here's Mr. Courtney getting everyone set up and motivated for the potato sack race!
Go First Graders!
 And they are off!
First Grade Field Day was Pretty Amazing!

Connor's First TRYathalon

Connor got a notice at school that there would be a kids TRYathalon and he BEGGED us to let him do it. He literally asked me every day if I had signed him up yet....so obviously I did. So far Connor has not really been a super competitive kid...until this event. He was pumped to do it & literally gave it his ALL.
First he had to swim 1 pool length:
(Side Note: our videographer was sort of sub-par that day. I'm thinking that this person should definitely scream less and focus a tad bit more on the actually taking of the video. )

Bike 1 mile.
(Another Note: Our photographer didn't get a picture, because she was a uni-athlete that day - also biking 1 mile).
Then run 1/2 mile.
(Here, pictured with his trainer aka "Dad"):

At the end he got to pose with the Worlds. Biggest. Trophy. and sign his name on the banner.
Way to go Connor!

On to the Big Leagues

We just wrapped up Connor's last year playing "T-ball" (coach pitch)!
He's really got the right look down...
The batting Stance:
The Stride:

Safe at First!

The social aspect...

Next year Connor is off to the big leagues....well, I mean the leagues where the kids pitch to each other. This might be a mom-thing, but I can't really picture how that will go. Coach keeps reminding me that this is a totally normal, totally do-able thing. Are there 7-year olds who can throw a strike??!! Let's hope.

A highlight of this year's season was when Coach let the future t-baller give it a try! GO HUDSON!

Cafeteria Food

The first grade has really brought out the adventure-seeker in Connor. Last week, I didn't have the type of sandwich he requested for a cold lunch, so he decided to try the food served by the school: Chicken nuggets and a salad. I warned him that he might not like that (since he has NEVER. EVER. eaten a chicken nugget or a salad despite many opportunities provided by me). However, I was pleasantly surprised when he came home and declared...

Connor: Mom! I ate all my chicken nuggets.
Me: Whoa! Seriously?
Connor: Yep, and I even liked the salad.
Me: Awesome! So, now are you going to eat the salads I make at home?
Connor: No, I didn't really like it THAT much.
