Favorite colors

Earlier today as I offered a chocolate z-bar to the kids:

Ashlyn: "You know what my favorite color is? Its Pink and Chocolate."
Kaia: "Chocolate is my new favorite color too!"

I spy with my little eye...

We play the "I spy" game a bit here and there, especially when we are waiting in line, or at a restaurant, or today, for instance, while at home. For a long time I have suspected that the girls don't quite get the game and here's why...

Ashlyn: "I spy with my little eye....ummm...something purple!" (staring right at my purple shirt)
Me: Okay. It is my shirt?
Ashlyn: No!
Kaia: Is it Connor's batcave?
Ashlyn: No!
Me: Is it that purple dinosaur magnet?
Ashlyn: "Huh? WHAT dinosaur magnet?"
Me: "That one over there. On the refridge."
Ashlyn: "Ooooohhhhh" (walks over to examine it closely as if it is the first time she has ever seen it). After a long pause, "Yes! That's it! You got it mama."
Me: Really? It was that magnet?
Ashlyn: Yep.

Of course, the game still works this way, and honestly is still just as fun. However, our 5-year old does not agree. When this type of "thing" happens he claims that the "girls are cheating" and then he doesn't want to play anymore. He loves rules. And almost always follows them. Exactly. Apparently there are both pros and cons to having such strong feelings about rule-following.

New Swimsuits!

Every. Single. Day. the girls wear their swimsuits.
I tell them that it is not summer yet, and they say "Its okay! We won't get cold!" Sure enough hours later, they are still going strong, swimming, dancing, running, hiding, all in their swimsuits. I don't know if you realize this, but swimsuits just make life so much MORE FUN. Clearly. So, since they were getting some really good use out of them, I decided that we should invest in suits that actually fit. I made the mistake allowed the girls to pick out their own off the rack. How does that work, you might be wondering?

Kaia & Ashlyn: "PINK! I want PINK!"
Ashlyn: "This one, Kaia!"
Kaia: "Oh yes, with a fancy tutu!"
And the excitement builds:
Together: "We love these! Can we get these pretty pink ones? Please?"
So, that was that. Pink. Tutu. Swimsuits. I have no idea how aerodynamic they actually are in a pool, but they sure do the trick for pretend-play time. Now, what to try next in a swimsuit? How about riding in the "bus" (toy box) to "school"?
Later after Connor got home:
Connor: WHAT? What are THOSE? Are those actual SWIMSUITS?
(Rolling his eyes). This is just way WAY too much pink.

So, I guess I'd say they are a hit:) Summa-time here we come!

Ski Weekend

Connor's Uncle Will rented a house near one of our favorite ski mountains & invited us to come stay last weekend. Then, Grandma agreed to babysit the non-skiers in the fam... WHOOP WHOOP, mini-ski-vacay, here we come! We had a awesome time & the best news yet is that we now have a newly independent skier. Connor gets on the chair lift, gets off, then skis the whole (green) run alone. If he falls, he gets himself up. Thanks goodness for this new development, because skiing with a 5-year old cling-on partner was getting slightly exhausting for Connor's parents. Here he is in action (clearly I will not be going into professional ski videography):

And a little ski lift selfie with Uncle Will. I promised him I would NOT post it on Facebook. Good thing this blog is much more private.
