Tummy Time

Big Brother is showing the girls how tummy time works. Notice his good form, his strong neck muscles, and arching back. I think he has this one mastered. Come on Kaia - you can do it!

Connor always asks at this point, "Can she see me?" Ummm, yea.

And now a little reward for all that hard work...tickle time!

My first pedicure

Now, I know you might be thinking that the girls are a tad bit young for this type of thing. However it was originally meant as a necessity of life. I painted Kaia's toenails "Smokin' in Savannah" in order to distinguish her from her identical sister. Then I took a nap. When I woke up, their Dad & older Brother decided that it just wouldn't be fair if only one got the nail polish...so they painted Ashlyn's toenails also. Is it just me, or doesn't that defeat the whole purpose altogether??!! (Might I also mention that Ashlyn's pedicure looks less than professional.) However, there are times in life when you just plain don't have the energy to fight it. *Sigh*

The best thing about twins

This is the best thing about twins so far - they can soothe each other. Plus, at the risk of being "that mom"...isn't that just the cutest?

Welcome

There are now three children who will be Growing Up Cunningham. Kaia Belle, 6 lbs 12 oz and Ashlyn Maria, 7 lbs were born May 12, 2011. First, they started off on my good side because labor was only 6 hours (with a great epideral) and they arrived 9 minutes apart. So far they have been good listeners. As requested, they usually sleep together (and quite a lot) and only cry when necessary...as asked. When Connor first met them they were both being examined/bathed by the nurse and were crying in unison. His first reaction was,"I don't want them" and seriously...who can blame him? But by the time we brought them home he said, "Can we keep them?" and gave each of them their own Sesame Street Monster to have.

Big brother is doing so well being very gentle with them (with only a few head bumps so far) and likes to kiss them on the head. When they cry he will come tell me, "Mama! The babies are hungry!" (Thanks for the reminder, Connor, since I hadn't noticed.) Except for the marathon feedings around the clock, things are surprisingly calm, peaceful, and snuggly around these parts. Let's hope it stays that way...

Resting Time

Today marked the second day in a row that Connor didn't take a nap. Now this has happened before, but not for a very, very long time. In fact, after skipping one yesterday and spending the whole morning playing hard in the sunshine at the park, I figured that surely, SURELY Connor would take a nice long slumber (and SO. WOULD. I.)

I couldn't have been more wrong. He seemed tired, was rubbing his eyes and all, but as soon as I left him in his room he started playing with his monsters, singing, and making carnival-like happy screams. Apparently laying in the dark by himself is one of his most favorite activities. After approximately 1 hour I usually let him get up and figure that "rest-time" is over. So, in I went and turned on the light. Here's what transpired:

Connor: "But Mama! I am still tired."
Me: "Oh, do you want to lie down for a bit longer?" (because I would gladly oblige)
Connor: "Nope. I'm ready to get up."
Me: "Well, if you are so tired, how come you didn't go to sleep?"
Connor: "Because my eyes kept opening up!"
(Those silly eyes, I guess they have a mind of their own:)
